Olinkas
The book is over but I feel that there is some importance that the Olinka people have on the book. Is it a symbol? How do you guys feel about Adam and Tashi. What happens to the other Olinka people since they left? What exactly is the importance of the Olinka people? What do you guys think?

I really am lost about the Olinka’s people. Obviously they were put in this book for a reason. My only guess is the whole belief in God. They might have helped Nettie finally realize to view God more as a spirit rather then a Man. I also think that the Olinka people taught Nettie and Celie's children how to speak up for themselves because at the end Nettie says the children may get in trouble in America because they learned to say too much. If the Olinka people stand for any thing I would say either religious reasons or building one's character. I think that Adam and Tashi are an example of how to different cultures can still fall in love.
I can honestly say I have no idea what the Olinka people are for! They seem like they stood up for what they believed in and Nettie and her husband Samuel really tried hard to help them out. I think that the whole Adam and Tashi thing was cute. It was sad to see how the women in that culture were being scarred and constantly hurt but it was just the way things were.
I was also really dissapointed to find out this wasn't a real group! lol, booooo!
I think she mentions the Olinka people just show some importance in Africa. Adam and Tashi were a great contribute to the book it was good to add that little love story.
I completly agree with Toria because I also have no clue what those people symbolize. And I thought that this book was supposed to be based on a true story, then why aren't the Olinkas a real group?
