Well, this was an interesting book. Did any of you guys predict that Shug would end up leaving Celie? Also, do you think that maybe Shug was able to show Celie how to love even though she turned her back on her? I think that Celie was able to show affection was no longer scared of herself, after Shug opened Celie's eyes. Is there anything you guys wish you could have changed?
Okay like everyone has said the book is finally over. This, to me is when the most questions evolve. Belinda's question was something i wanted to address so I'm glad she did. However, my question is about Shug Avery. Do you think her lifestyle as a singer is the reason for her heart breaking ways? If not what is? I feel Shug has broken both Celie and Mr.____ 's heart with no remorse. Are you guys a fan of Shug Avery or not? If so why or why not. To me, Shug Avery is a selfish women. She just is not the type of person anyone should try to get into a relationship because I don't think she likes the commitment. It is almost like she gets bored. Also, I am interested to see who your favorite characters ended up being ? The book was full of twists I enjoyed reading it. How about you ?
Olinkas
The book is over but I feel that there is some importance that the Olinka people have on the book. Is it a symbol? How do you guys feel about Adam and Tashi. What happens to the other Olinka people since they left? What exactly is the importance of the Olinka people? What do you guys think?
My Post #2!!!!!!!
OK, so the book is finally over. Overall, i thought it was interesting how it came about. Many of the characters relationships changed like Celie and Mr._____, Celie and Shug and how her and Nettie and her children got together. Which brings me to my final questions. One issue that came up in our groups was if Celie was gay. At first we thought she was straight until she started talking about Shug. So now that Shug screwed her over in the end and she took a liking into Mr.____ because of their shared troubles do you still think she likes girls? Another question is do you think that after everything that happened in the book, she finally has confidence in herself and is able to defend and stand up for herself like she always wanted to. She still calls Mr.____ as she did in the begginning which i thought was going to change. Does everyone still think she fears him?
The End
Ok so, the book is finally over. Any last thoughts about it? What did you think about the last line in the book? "Matter of fact, I think this the youngest us ever felt." They know that they are old, so why do you think that they feel like this way? And can anyone clear up the meaning of the picture on the front of the book for me? I still kind of don't understand the meaning of a sunflower with a purple center. Recommend this book to a friend? Hm...? Yes? No? Maybe?
wow!!!
Wow!!! I love this book!!!! Many of our questions were answer but what were your feelings when you were finding out all of this? How did you feel when at one point Cellie mentions that Nettie and her kids were dead? Did u believe it? And what do you guys think about Cellies relationship with Mr.____? And the ending!!! Wow it was a great ending. What do you guys think?
Ok guys, so we are basically done with the book. The mention of the color purple has came up several times but I feel like I still don't understand the true meaning behind it. One line that I feel has a strong connection to why it might be the title of this book is on p203 when Shug is talking to Celie about God. She says that "I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color purple in a field somewhere and don't notice it." I know this line is of some importance but I'm not sure what it means. I think that Shug is trying to tell Celie that God does not want her to be shut up in just religion and the proper ways of doing things because God, being the creator would want all of his children to have fun and have an enjoyable life. I'm not sure, because that still doesn't tell what the color purple and has to do with the title of the book. what do you guys think?

Well, well. This has been pretty interesting so far! Like Casey mentioned, there has been so much that Celie has gone through. Do you guys think that this is the end for Celie's crazy life? And, possibly things may get better for her? Also, is Celie sending these letters to Nettie? Or is she just addressing them to her instead of God? In your opinion, do you think Nettie's letters are as good as Celie's? Because to me, it's kind of boring to hear about Africa after a while, although the connection between Nettie and Celie's kids is really shocking! What do you guys think?

hello!!!
Hello!!! We are almost done with this book but there’s is many questions to b answer. First of all what do u guys think about the business of Cellies pants? And if is such a big deal for girls to where pants why is she making them? Does this represent any time in history? Maybe the Harlem renaissance? Or other time? i also love the way the author has two stories going on at the same time :Cellies letters and Netties letters. What do you guys think??

Where do i start? Celie's life has been nothing but chaos sense she was born. Her father raped her. She married a man she doesnt love. The question is does she even like man or women? I do not even think she could answer that question. Although it is pretty obvious she doesn't like man seeing as she is obssesed with Shug Avery. I am more confused about where Shug Avery stands. Does she like men or women. I think she likes Mr___ but now im starting to feel the sense that she has a crush on Celie. What do you guys think about that situation? Then there is the whole Harpo, Sophia, and Squeak situation. Do you guys think that Sophia and Harpo still love eachother? Personally, I love Sophia becasue she knows how to stick up for herself. The last situation i want to mention is NETTIE ! I can't belive she is alive. I thought for sure Mr.___ killed her. Why do you guys think she moved to Africa ? That part was confusing to me. Does anyone have any predictions about wether or not Celie will leave Mr.___ and try to move in with Nettie? This book has so much things going on i clearly did not cover everything so feel free to bring in things i missed =).

My Post #1!!!!!!!!
Well hello hello.I feel cool because i can change the fonts and colors. Makes this blog more exciting haha. But anyways, on to the book. I just finished reading til page 50 like we were suppost to and i think the book is interesting in certain aspects, it however raises many questions for me. One, why does Celie always refer to her husband as Mr. _____ ? Is she scared to use his name becasue shes going to get hit? Which brings me to my next question. Is Mr. ____ black. I mean the way her father talks and sells her basically it seems like shes a slave. How she "picks cotton" (sorry i dont have my book so i cant remember the page but somwhere in the 40s) and cares for the children while her husband goes out and is obsessed with Shug Avery. But then it made me wonder because I know her son Harpo is black, but he doesnt get treated like her. Is that just because shes a woman? Which brings me to my last question of what time do you all think this book takes place in? I was thinking somewhere around the 1800's. Any thoughts? I like this book mostly because its something really different. I like how its written in letters. Its short, right to the point and is in 2nd person. I feel like im reading Celie diary or something, it makes it easier to understand because shes sort-of telling the story. Well, see you guys tomrrow! =]
P.S sorry if the post is really long.
; ) and i picked blue as my color.
So all my posts will be blue! =]
